Buffalo Nickel — Extremely Fine (XF)
Dates Our Choice
The Buffalo Nickel is one of the most recognizable designs in U.S. coinage, created in the early 20th century to reflect a distinctly American identity. Struck from 1913 through 1938, these nickels circulated heavily during a period of rapid change—through World War I, the Roaring Twenties, and the early years of the Great Depression.
An Extremely Fine (XF) example shows clear evidence of that circulation while still preserving strong detail. Liberty’s portrait remains well defined, and the buffalo on the reverse shows a visible horn and solid detail across the shoulder and legs. The wear is even and consistent, giving the coin an honest, original look rather than the appearance of damage or cleaning.
Because Buffalo Nickels were used so extensively, coins with strong remaining detail are increasingly harder to find. Choosing XF strikes a balance between affordability and visual appeal, making it a favorite grade for collectors who enjoy coins with real history behind them.
“Dates our choice” means the year is selected from our available inventory, but every coin meets the stated XF standard. It’s a good option for collectors looking for a solid example of the type, filling an album space, or adding a piece of classic American coinage with character.
