2000 Library of Congress Commemorative Silver Dollar

NGC MS69

The 2000 Library of Congress commemorative silver dollar was issued by the U.S. Mint to honor the Library of Congress, the nation’s oldest federal cultural institution.

This coin is certified Mint State 69 by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC). An MS69 grade reflects a sharply struck coin with excellent eye appeal and only minimal imperfections visible under magnification.

The obverse features an allegorical figure representing Knowledge, shown holding a torch and an open book, symbolizing learning and enlightenment. The reverse depicts the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress, one of the institution’s most recognizable landmarks.

Modern U.S. commemoratives were sold directly to collectors as part of limited-duration programs that supported specific institutions or causes. Because they were handled more carefully than bullion coins, many survive in high condition, and graded examples appeal to collectors who value third-party authentication and consistent grading.

The coin is struck in .900 fine silver and is housed in NGC’s sealed, tamper-evident holder for long-term protection.
