Type 1 vs. Type 2 Silver Eagles
From 1986 through mid-2021, Silver Eagles used the original heraldic eagle reverse design. In 2021, the U.S. Mint introduced the new Type 2 reverse featuring an eagle coming in for a landing with an oak branch.
Many collectors enjoy owning both designs, while others collect Silver Eagles by date, condition, or finish.
